If you’ve been part of any writing circle in the past few months, it’s extremely likely you’ve heard of Simily.

This Medium competitor popped up early last year and has attracted a lot of attention for being different to Medium for one major reason, they proclaim a focus on fiction rather than non-fiction content.

This focus has caused a few writers to pen articles here on Medium calling for all non-fiction writers to back off. Stay on your own turf, leave us to the one place we can call home.

This arrival of a fiction-focused competitor should be excellent news for the many writers here on Medium (myself included) who have never earned as much as a dollar from any fiction content written and published on this platform.

Fiction is a difficult beast because it’s just inherently more difficult to convince readers to give you the time of day for something make-believe, not to mention the intense level of competition and the enormous amount of garbage already washing around the internet.
