I’m not sure who wins when race-swapping history. I (white) am left confused and my friends (not white) feel pandered to and confused as to why they didn’t just choose a historical figure who was, in reality, a person of colour. I don’t mind the wheelchair inclusivity or anything gay or trans at all, but I really hate dialogue like characters saying to the doctor “the answer isn’t something a male presenting time lord would ever understand” completely robbing him of thousands of years of knowledge simply because in his current regeneration he’s a man. I thought that was a bit cringe. They were also casually solving a problem that’s been plaguing the doctor and Donna since I was a literal teen. It was a big problem! It served no one to belittle it. Anyway. It’s all a bit much.
