I’m Building a Team of Teachers in Shanghai
The time has come to put my money where my mouth is
Do you ever have those days when you can’t believe how everything is turning out?
I’ve lived in Shanghai for the past four years, working as a drama teacher and loving my life.
I enjoy the city, my job, my work/life balance, and especially my writing. I’ve been able to keep my hobbies, raise two bitchy cats, and keep a healthy relationship with my partner.
Things were always good, but something kept nagging at me on the inside. I just couldn’t leave well enough alone.
The Unsatisfied Itch
I work for a performing arts studio in downtown Shanghai. We teach kids how to perform and stage shows every year.
Things were going relatively well, but it always annoyed me how the kids were taught to act. I never agreed with the methods being used, I couldn’t quite jive with the curriculum.
Do you ever feel that you’re teaching curriculum that just doesn’t sit right? The material seems fine in theory, but isn’t applying well to the classroom environment or the show being rehearsed. For me, the big reason it felt so wrong was because the drama theory didn’t line up with my experiences on the stage.
